NSO PRODIGY Program

Throughout history there have been children who, from an early age have exhibited musical genius: composers like Mozart and Schubert; performers like Midori and Joshua Bell. Identified as musical “prodigies”, these children are usually celebrated and nurtured by the adult musicians surrounding them. The Norwalk Symphony wants to continue this tradition by encouraging and showcasing young musicians of exceptional talent. We have planned a concert on Saturday, January 26, 2008 called “Prodigy” to do just that.

We are currently starting a search to identify a select group of exceptional young musicians. Once identified, these young prodigies will perform in the January 2008 symphonic concert with the professional members of the Norwalk Symphony. The “Prodigy” concert will be part of our normal Saturday night subscription series. The program may include a chamber music spotlight in which the top one or two students will be invited to join members of the orchestra in a short chamber music piece.

If you currently teach young musicians of exceptional talent, please encourage them to apply by filling out the accompanying application and submitting it along with an audio or video tape and an application fee to the Norwalk Symphony Office.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the coordinator of the “Prodigy” program Jane Shelly at 203-847-8844, or e-mail her at info@Norwalksymphony.org .

This concert will be a wonderful showcase for these incredibly talented young musicians and we are looking forward to making music with them!

Sincerely,

Jane Shelly
