The Permanent Fund
Composing our Future
The Merle Baum Forte Society, the Permanent Fund of the Norwalk Symphony, was inaugurated in 2018 to sustain our current and future operations through a flow of interest and dividends. You can help us achieve this through a direct donation or any of the Planned Giving Options described below.
The inspirational Merle Baum (1926-2015) was a ceaseless, enthusiastic supporter of the Norwalk Symphony who dedicated her efforts to continuously raise awareness and funding for the Symphony.
It is in her honor that her son Winthrop and the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra have created this permanent fund to support our mission to bring live performances and music education to audiences of all ages.
The Merle Baum Forte Society was created with a simple set of goals: that we collectively build the legacy of those who have come before us; that we add to the funding needed to sustain the quality programming that is a hallmark of the Symphony; and that we engage more people to share the reach of the beautiful music played by the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra.
Become a part of the Norwalk Symphony Permanent Fund and ensure future generations share your joy of music, as did Merle Baum! We invite you to add your support to this fund to ensure the continuity of the Symphony.

PLANNED GIVING:
Bequest
A very popular way to make a significant contribution to support the Norwalk Symphony by leaving a gift through your will or living trust. Your bequest can be for a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of the value, after other gifts have been satisfied. Gifts can be of cash, securities, real estate or personal property.
Stock
Donating a long-term gift of stock makes a big impact and these appreciated securities have immediate or deferred tax benefits. You will avoid capital gains tax while earning a larger tax deduction.
Retirement / IRA
Leave your own legacy or memorialize a loved one by giving with an IRA rollover and avoid paying income on taxes on the distribution. A pledge gift for the future is an option while you continue to take required withdrawals during your lifetime and remaining assets then pass tax-free to the Norwalk Symphony.
This technique may be particularly useful for individuals who are obligated to take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from their IRA.
Charitable Remainder Trust
This gift combines flexible benefits; significant income, tax benefits and a meaningful gift to the Norwalk Symphony. You can receive income for life from the trust and the Norwalk Symphony receives the remainder when the trust terminates. Trusts can be structured to pay either fixed or variable income and provide an income tax charitable deduction while avoiding capital gains when the long-term appreciated property is donated.
Please consult your financial advisor for the best approach for your wishes.
